Diffraction profiles from the martensitic and austenitic phases were obtained, and their strength and width were observed to vary as loading. Analysis of the diffraction profiles showed that the content of martensite in the as-aged material decreased slowly at low stress levels and decreased rapidly at high stress levels. On the other hand, the austenite phase in the as-solution materials was significantly transformed the martensite phase as the stress increased. It was clarified to be responsible for their respective strength properties.

Mountain development has an influence on long-term changes of uplift, erosion, and groundwater flow related to change in hydraulic gradient. Provenance analysis is one of promising geological methods to understand origin and formation process of mountains. Case study in the Tono area, central Japan has been done for research and development of individual technique to estimate a provenance. In this report, petrological descriptions by meso- and microscopic observations and elemental distributions using scanning X-ray analytical microscope of basement rocks (silicic igneous rocks) from the study area were compiled.

In tight-lattice bundles with about 1mm gap between rods, a rod displacement might affect thermal-hydraulic characteristics. The inside-structure observation of the simulated seven-rod bundle of RMWR was made with the high-energy X-ray CT of JNC. The CT view assured that the rod position was almost the same as expected by design. In the heat transfer experiments, all thermocouples on the center rod showed almost simultaneous BT-induced temperature increase and on the same axial heights showed quite similar time-variation behaviors in the vapor cooling heat transfer regime. It showed that the effect of the geometrical asymmetry was small on the BT characteristics. The calculated critical power by subchannel analysis with the input of the CT measured rod position was smaller by about 5% than that with the designed rod position. It concluded that the error in the calculated critical power was attributable not to the asymmetry in the rod position, but to the models in the subchannel analysis code.

It was previously reported that RAFs (F82H-IEA and its heat treatment variant, ORNL9Cr-2WVTa, JLF-1 and 2%Ni doped F82H) shows variety of changes on its ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) and yield stress after irradiation at 573K up to 5dpa. These differences could not be interpreted as an effect of irradiation hardening caused by dislocation loop formation. The precipitation behavior of the irradiated steels was examined by weight analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis and chemical analysis on extraction residues. These analyses suggested that irradiation caused (1) the increase of the amount of precipitates (mainly MC), (2) increase of Cr and decrease of W contained in precipitates, (3) disappearance of MX (TaC) in ORNL9Cr and JLF-1.
